What is a "Vincentian"?
How many Vincentians are in San Antonio and the surrounding area?
Vincentians are volunteer members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-one of the largest Catholic lay organizations in the world. Vincentians approach their volunteering as a vocation - living a life devoted to helping the poor.
Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society also finds great joy in collaborating with other people of goodwill in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.
We have more than 1,358 Vincentians who provide an invaluable service to those in need. Vincentians are at the heart of the work we provide in the community.
What is the Vincentian approach?
St. Vincent de Paul said, "Go to the poor: you will find God."
Vincentians serve the community through a "door to door" approach. This visit is the most widespread tradition of Vincentians because a face to face. Our direct approach to service through home visits requires both knowledge and passion. We become more than a resource for our brothers and sisters - we become neighbors, friends, and family.
Where are Vincentians based?
Vincentians are based in “Conferences” traditionally parish-based. Each Conference serves those in need in the area surrounding it. Each Conference helps people in their service area in different ways—they may provide assistance with utility bills, rental or mortgage assistance, clothing, furniture, or simply prayer and companionship.
